There's an Elephant in the Room: Employees Want to Stay Remote in the New Year

With 2020 behind us, Americans are ready to put the hardships of last year on the back burner and look forward to 2021. The pandemic threatened all aspects of life, from personal to professional. Thousands of employees were out of a job, while thousands more were faced with the challenge of quickly grasping onto the gist of work from home life. New Year’s Resolutions have been set, and a common theme among these after the year of hardship are to simply maintain good health, save money, and be happy. Priorities look different this year: employees aren’t looking to put in effort into things they will reap little benefit of, and employers know this. Back at the (virtual) office, there’s an elephant in the room: employees want to stay remote, and employers want to as well.

Is Remote Work the New Normal?

What happened was this: thousands of Americans embarked on the journey that is at-home work, only to realize the immense benefits that come along with this change in lifestyle. Nearly half of employees surveyed that they wanted to remain working from home, or at least integrate remote work into their weekly routines. There are clear upsides with remote work: a majority of employees have the freedom to choose their hours and create their schedule, and it’s been made much easier to balance personal life with business. Not to mention the drastic amount of money saved through cutting out commutes, business lunches, and office attire that all comes along with working from an office.

So, what does this mean for the average employee? While most employees are looking to extend their work-from-home experience, employers are seeing the immediate benefits as well. Gone are the days of extra spending on office repairs, supplies, lunches and more. In the new year, companies are looking to bridge any gaps between employers and employees in the most efficient and tech savvy ways possible. Many companies were forced to improvise with remote work, yet with the new year companies are learning how to best approach this new normal and are finding ways to make remote work something that is successful and accessible for all.

Achieving your 2021 New Year’s Resolutions

Many are looking into the new year with goals of saving money, spending more time doing the things they love, and prioritizing family and loved ones. The pandemic altered the lives of thousands, and for that reason, priorities may look different this year. Yet if one thing is to be salvaged from 2020, it is the widespread popularity of remote work, and the freedom it allows employees. Not only does it allow flexibility, but increases productivity within the workplace as well.

Say Goodbye to Office Distractions and Complications

There is always motivation to perform at a high level, yet office distractions can sometimes hinder the ability to do so. While working from home has challenges of its own, it cuts out any unnecessary office distractions that came along with working in an office. Everyone wants to perform as efficiently as they can, and an environment in which employees can stay focused and perform most efficiently is one that benefits not only individual employees, but the company as well.

What are the Best Jobs of 2021?

The sudden shift to work from home following the coronavirus pandemic led to a huge increase in employee productivity, and employers are noticing.
